Liverpool failed to score in front of their home fans for just the second time this season as Bayern Munich held them to a 0-0 draw in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie.
The thought of scoring an away goal didn’t seem to interest the German visitors all that much and they focussed on stopping Jurgen Klopp’s attack, a task they completed successfully.
Sadio Mane had a few first half chances, but was unable to make the most of any of them, while the closest Bayern came in the first half was through a near own goal as Joel Matip almost turned the ball past Alisson.
Liverpool grew as the half went on and the interval came at the perfect time for Niko Kovac’s men, who regrouped and who came out refreshed for the second 45 minutes.
Again, the visitors hardly threatened apart from a couple of half-chances for Serge Gnabry and James Rodriguez, while Mane was once again the greatest threat for the English side but couldn’t turn a late header past Manuel Neuer.
The lack of goals means that it’ll be all to play for when these two sides meet again in Bavaria on March 13.
