£90m-rated defender open to Man United move

Manchester United will wait until the summer to sign Napoli ace Kalidou Koulibaly after the defender intimated he would be keen on a move to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are set to sign a commanding centre-back and have identified him as their first choice transfer target.

The club would ideally like to sign the Senegalese this month and had hoped that Napoli’s exit at the group stage of the Champions League would increase their chances of landing the 27-year-old.

However, Napoli think Kalidou Koulibaly is instrumental to their Europa League hopes and will not allow him to leave this month.

Nevertheless, Manchester United have been buoyed by Kalidou Koulibaly’s interest in a move to England and will wait until the end of the season to sign him.

The central defender signed a long-term deal in Naples back in 2018 but the club are realistic about their hopes of retaining his services. His departure is likely to command a world record fee for a defender with Manchester United expected to pay in the region of £90 million to land him.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has taken his squad to Dubai this week for some warm weather training as they prepare to take on Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley in the Premier League at the weekend.
