Dembele allegedly refused to sign for man utd

Spanish giants had agreed to allow the World Cup winning forward to join the Red Devils on loan, with the Catalan heavyweights set to receive a ‘substantial loan fee’.

However, the report suggests that Ronald Koeman’s side wanted the attacker to put pen on a contract extension until 2023, which would depart them in a strong position to negotiate when he returned to the team next summer.

Dembele allegedly refused to sign a contract extension, though, meaning that a short-term move to theatre of the dreams studio fell through in the final stages of the window.

The ex-Borussia Dortmund forward has only played 20 minutes of football across Spanish giants first three games  of the 2020-21 La Liga season.

The Barcelona attacker was tracked by the Red Devils this transfer market and considered as a top alternative to landing Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund attacker Jadon Sancho.

When it became clear they wouldn’t sign Sancho, United chiefs attempted to force through a loan deal for Ousmane.

He has struggled to reproduce his best form since a £117m move from Dortmund to the Camp Nou outfit.

Ronald Koeman wanted to offload the player in order to make space for Ligue 1 side Lyon star Memphis Depay – who used to represent United.

Barcelona’s management were happy to Ousmane to leave this summer as long as he signed a new deal until June 2023.

The club were determined to protect themselves from risking losing the star on the cheap as his contract would only have 12 months remaining once he remained on loan.
