Man Utd can set a club’s transfer record to sign Ruben Diaz in the winter transfer window with Benfica requests £80m for the defender.

The Portuguese centre-back has developed as one of the best young defenders in Europe following his appearance from Portuguese giants academy back in 2017. The defender has 13 caps for Portugal and has played 85 games for Benfica.

Benfica wants to keep the defender and is willing to offer him a new deal just 12 months after he signed his last renewal following interest from United, Atletico Madrid and Juventus.

Benfica hope to include a release clause of around £80m in that contract, meaning the Red Devils will have to match the price they gave Leicester for Maguire to get Dias.

Norwegian manager has paired Maguire with Victor Lindelof or Axel Tuanzebe in the Premier League so far this time, but the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains keen to empowerment
his defence. Chris Smalling is supposed to be sold next summer, while two of Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones andEric Bailly will be sold.

Man Utd boss wanted to get rid of nine players last summer and started the process by placing of Matteo Darmian, Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Ander Herrera and Antonio Valencia . But the club backed him with just three signings, and he wants more in January to strengthen his squad.
