Sweden international defender Victor Lindelof is set to sign a new deal with Manchester United, according to the reports.
The 25-year-old centre-back was signed in a £31 million contract from Portugues giants Benfica in the summer of 2017 and has now established himself as Norwegian Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-choice defender alongside with the Red Devils signing Harry Maguire.
La Liga giants Barcelona had targeted a move for the Swedish defender this summer, however, the Red Devils refused to allow the 25-year-old defender to depart from Old Trafford.
And according to Aftonbladet, Swedish defender is now on the verge of agreeing on a new contract with the Red Devils.
The report suggests that Lindelof’s agent has been in talks with 20-times English champions and the defender will see a ‘significant’ increase on his current £75,000-per week salary.
The 25-year-old defender still has two years left on his current deal with the Red Devils, plus the option of a further year.
Man Utd got their new Premier League season off to an excellent start with a 4-0 win over their direct rivals Chelsea on Sunday and Jose Mourinho has claimed that Lindelof and the most expensive defender in the world Harry Maguire will have an excellent partnership for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
‘You can be very dangerous in attack but if you feel that a mistake is around the corner it takes your confidence away and you don’t play as well,’ said Mourinho.
‘When you feel there is something that allows you to play you are much more confident.
‘As I always said Lindelof can be a very good player. With Maguire, it can be a very good partnership.’
