Man United expect £55m-rated attacker to arrive Manchester today

Manchester United pursuit of Portugal midfielder Bruno Fernandes is well documented and there are reports that the club could be inching closer to agreeing a deal for the player. Sporting Lisbon have been resolute on their valuation of the player all summer.

It is understood that United rivals Tottenham are also interested in the player but are unwilling to match the £65 million fee requested by Sporting Lisbon.

The air of uncertainty about Fernandes transfer is puzzling given that the midfielder scored 31 goals in all competitions for Sporting Lisbon last season.

Portuguese tabloid A Bola (h/t Daily Star) claims that Manchester United are keen on the player and are preparing to fly the player over to Manchester on Monday. This is looking like a two-horse race for the midfielder with Spurs also said to be planning a similar approach.

Manchester United have spent big this summer following the arrivals of Daniel James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and the impending transfer of Harry Maguire. Fernandes will add creativity and goals to the midfield which would reduce the burden on the front men.

The uncertainty about Paul Pogba’s future could also come into play as the Frenchman is linked with a move to Spanish side Real Madrid. one thing is certain United have just four days to complete the deal or risk losing the player to Tottenham.
