Manchester United launch bid to sign 12-goal star

Manchester United have submitted a bid of £46 million to Ajax in an initial move to lure David Neres to Old Trafford.

The 22-year-old caught the attention of several club with his brilliant performance last season, helping his Ajax to the Champions League semi final. Scouts from a host of clubs have been spotted watching him during their pre-season campaign this summer.

He scored 12 goals in all competitions, including important strikes against Real Madrid and Juventus in Europe.

The Eredivise champions have been in a frenzy this summer with both Matthijs de Ligt and Frankie de Jong’s exits, while Donny van de Beek could also be leaving for Real Madrid soon.

Neres could be the next in line to say his goodbyes, with Yahoo Sports reporting the Red Devils offered Ajax £46 million to acquire the forward’s signature.

But United’s offer remains well below Ajax’s £64 million asking fee.

Manchester United are unlikely to want to pay that much for the Brazil international, especially having already spent considerable sums this transfer window.

Manchester United, having been busy in the transfer market, might not be up to paying that much for the Brazilian.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took on Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka earlier this summer for 15m and £50m respectively while he is on the verge of completing an £80m move for Harry Maguire.

However, Ajax are not willing to let Neres go and are hopeful he can be convinced stay with a one-year contract extension which would make him one of the highest paid players in the club.
