Man United keen on No.2 star as search for long-term right-back option continues

The defence of Manchester United was amongst the worst in the English top-flight this campaign. The Red Devils apparently need to fill those open holes this summer transfer window.

Ecuador international Antonio Valencia is departing, so could happen in the case of versatile Italian full-back Matteo Darmian, while English star Ashley Young continues to struggle.

Right-back is arguably Manchester United’s biggest problem going into a big transfer window.

According to Marca, Barcelona defender Nelson Semedo, in spite of doing well when called upon, would love a more prominent role at Catalan giants.

Furthermore, the Spanish newspaper say that Premier League clubs have approached the Portugal right-back, with said sides ready to meet Blaugrana’s €35 million (£30 million) asking price.

Another British outlet The Sun says that the Red Devils and fellow English outfit Tottenham Hotspur are the two teams interested in acquiring the 25-year-old Nelson.

Their claim is that Manchester United are after a Valencia successor, while Spurs are planning to move away from England international Kieran Trippier.

Nelson’s point was proven in the two matches against Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League.

He started one match while coming off the substitutes bench in the other – nearly splitting the minutes with his teammate Sergi Roberto right down the middle.

If the ex-Benfica man chose a move to Manchester United there is no doubt he would be the number one option in the right-back role, and his willingness, pace and energy to win could be a real asset – especially at just £30m.
