Man United to part ways with key player in shocking £90m deal

Manchester United are ready to trigger Jan Oblak’s release clause at Atletico Madrid.

David De Gea is heading into the final year of his deal at Old Trafford and the Red Devils are scouring the market for the 28-year-old’s long-term successor.

Many have speculated that the Spaniard’s mind could be elsewhere following several uncharacteristic mistakes which have cost Manchester United in recent weeks both domestically and in Europe.

Jan Oblak is Manchester United’s ‘ideal replacement’ for the Spain international with talks over extending his deal at an impasse.

According to ESPN FC, Manchester United are now ‘seriously considering’ a move to trigger Oblak’s €120 million (£104m) buy-out clause in an attempt to prise the Slovenia international away from Atletico Madrid.

Jan Oblak signed a new deal with Atletico back in April, but the club were only able to increase his release clause from €100 to €120 million. The 20-times English champions would rather sign the 26-year-old with the funds raised from selling David De Gea than risk losing the latter on a free transfer at the end of next season.

Manchester United are likely to demand a fee of around £90 million from clubs interested in signing David De Gea ahead of the 2019/20 season.

Jan Oblak is believed to be open to a move to Premier League as he feels Atletico are still some way from competing with Barcelona and Real Madrid in La Liga.

However, Manchester United failing to qualify for next season’s Champions League could be a sticking point in their pursuit of Oblak.
